Mayo contemporary folk trio The Murphy Sisters announce new single
RISING contemporary folk trio The Murphy Sisters have announced the upcoming release of their fresh new single, 'Glass' - out on October 23.
Crafted around the Mayo trio’s signature blood harmonies and traditional roots, the track explores the quiet, devastating realisation of a relationship that is slowly breaking and shattering beyond repair.
Recorded by acclaimed producer Billy Farrell at Deadeye Productions in Dublin, ‘Glass’ beautifully marries heritage with modern production. The song blends traditional Irish instrumentation with a driving beat. This stark contrast creates a captivating ‘happy-sad’ dynamic, masking the heavy, melancholic lyrical themes beneath an infectious uplifting rhythm.
Hailing from Claremorris, The Murphy Sisters consist of sisters Sarah Jane, Katie Alice and Rachel Rose. Drawing comparisons to the organic storytelling of First Aid Kit, Amble and Fleetwood Mac, the trio have quickly built a reputation in the Irish music scene for their spellbinding live performances.
Talking about their new single, they explained: “We wanted to capture that specific, heavy silence when a relationship starts to splinter. It’s not always a massive, explosive fight; sometimes it’s a slow quiet shattering where you watch something beautiful break in slow motion.
“Musically, we wanted the track to feel happy while being sad, a song you can dance to while crying a little bit. The beat keeps it moving forward, but the concertina, fiddle and mandolin give it that raw, emotional ache.
“Singing this as sisters allowed us to bring our own different emotional perspectives into the arrangement, making it feel like a shared grief.”
The announcement of ‘Glass’ follows their recent standout performance at Forest Fest, cementing their status as one of Ireland’s most exciting emerging contemporary folk acts. Adding to their momentum, the song was recently chosen as one of Midwest Radio’s final four in the New Local Hero competition, where they performed it live as part of Irish Music Month.
‘Glass’ will be available on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music, on October 23.
