Mayo to celebrate Climate Action Week with over 30 events
NATIONAL Climate Action Week 2026 takes place from October 12 to 18, with over 30 events being supported by Mayo County Council this year.
Communities and organisations across Mayo will host free events to showcase and celebrate practical climate action supporting waste reduction, energy efficiency, local resilience and biodiversity. Events include swap shops, repair workshops, gardening and food demonstrations, energy saving talks and tips, film screenings, wetland protection, dune conservation field trips and many more.
Due to the large response from communities, Mayo Climate Action Week has been extended from October 9 to 21 to support all the events.
Climate Action Week in Mayo is part of the nationwide Climate Action Week initiative which is coordinated by An Taisce’s climate action team on behalf of the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment. A schedule of informative and fun events for all interests and ages can be accessed at the national website climateactionweek.ie, or for Mayo events see mayo.ie.
Mayo County Council's climate action coordinator, Laura Dixon, said: “Community groups across Mayo have submitted real fun and educational events for climate action week this year. We are delighted to support them and encourage people to participate, to learn, to swap, to plant, to chat.
“People coming together and undertaking simple actions can create real positive change, so I encourage everyone to check out where your nearest event is and join in.”
