Coffee morning in support of Sunflower Children’s Hospice in Mayo
On Friday, October 16, 160 Bank of Ireland staff across 21 branches in Mayo and Galway have committed to raising vital funds for the Sunflower Children's Hospice by hosting a coffee morning, inviting customers and local communities to support the region's first children's hospice.
Funds raised will help develop the Sunflower Children's Hospice, which will provide essential care for children and young people with life-limiting illnesses, as well as vital support for their families across eight counties in the west of Ireland.
The eight-bed Sunflower Children’s Hospice which will be located in Castlebar, will include family accommodation, hydrotherapy baths, play therapy and sensory rooms, direct garden access from every bedroom and, most importantly, a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals. Construction is expected to commence later this year.
Michael Costello, head of Bank of Ireland in Galway and Mayo, said: “We are inviting everyone to pop in to one of our branches on Friday, October 16, for a cup of tea or coffee and some treats to support the Sunflower Children’s Hospice, a vital service that will make a real difference for children and families across the west of Ireland, including Galway and Mayo. We are committed to supporting children and their families and are proud to play our part in helping ensure they can access the care and support they deserve, close to home and within their own communities.”
Martina Jennings, CEO Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation said: “Bank of Ireland’s support of the Sunflower Children’s Hospice began in December 2025, when Bank of Ireland branches in Mayo and Galway held collection days and I cannot thank them enough for their continued support. It means that together we are creating a lasting legacy of care for families and communities in the west of Ireland.
“I want to sincerely thank all 160 staff across the 21 Bank of Ireland branches for their outstanding commitment to supporting the Sunflower Children’s Hospice. Their continued involvement will play a vital role in helping bring this essential service to families who need it most.”
