Rain warning issued for Mayo as heavy rain set to bring flooding risk

A Status Yellow rain warning has been issued for Mayo as heavy spells of rain are expected to bring difficult travelling conditions and a risk of localised flooding.

The warning came into effect at 9 a.m. today, Thursday, October 8, and remains in place until 4 a.m. on Friday, October 9.

Met Éireann is warning that heavy spells of rain will affect Mayo, with the rain expected to be heaviest and most persistent across western and northern areas.

The forecaster has warned of difficult travelling conditions and possible localised flooding as a result of the rainfall.

Mayo is among four western counties covered by the warning, alongside Galway, Leitrim and Sligo.

A separate Status Yellow warning is also in place for Donegal.

The rain is expected to remain heavy at times tonight before gradually clearing from Mayo overnight.

Friday will bring brighter and fresher conditions, with sunny spells and scattered blustery showers developing across the county.

The latest warning is due to expire at 4 a.m. on Friday morning.
