The latest update from Met Éireann will impact three counties along the western seaboard.

Status Yellow wind warning issued for Mayo as strong winds set to hit

MET ÉIREANN has issued a Status Yellow wind warning for Mayo, with very strong winds expected to bring difficult travelling conditions and a risk of coastal flooding on Wednesday.

The warning, which also covers Galway and Donegal, will come into effect at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, October 14, and remain in place until 6 p.m. that evening.

According to Met Éireann, southwesterly winds will be very strong at times, particularly along coastal areas.

The national forecaster has warned that the conditions could lead to debris and loose objects being displaced, while motorists and cyclists may encounter difficult travelling conditions.

Large coastal waves, combined with a moderate surge, could also result in wave overtopping in exposed coastal areas.

There is also a risk of fallen trees and branches as strong winds sweep across the county.

Members of the public are advised to be mindful of the potential impacts, particularly when travelling or visiting exposed coastal locations.

The warning was issued by Met Éireann at 1.07 p.m. on Monday, October 12.
