Man fined and banned from driving for a year over Mayo disabled bay parking offence

A Castlebar man has been fined €300 and disqualified from driving for 12 months after parking in a disabled bay without a badge.

Stjepan Zajec, 4 McHale Road, Castlebar, did not appear at Castlebar District Court after he was emailed and told of the court date by the prosecuting garda.

Garda Michael Gorman said that while on patrol he witnessed a grey Audi enter a disabled parking bay at Knockaphunta, Ellison Street, Castlebar, on Friday, September 26, 2025.

The driver had no disabled parking badge.

He gave no reason for parking there, identified himself as Stjepan Zajec and gave his address as 4 McHale Road, Castlebar.

Garda Gorman said a fixed charge notice was sent to Zajec. Proof of postage was handed to the court and the fine went unpaid.

The court heard Zajec has a previous conviction for having no insurance, dating to July 2019. He was convicted in July 2022. A failure to produce documents offence was taken into consideration at that time.

Judge Vincent Deane imposed the one-year disqualification and €300 fine for the disabled bay offence.

The other matters were taken into consideration.
