Death of retired Mayo County Council employee Martin Quinn

The death of Martin James Quinn, Crillaune, Ross, Pontoon Road, Castlebar, is deeply mourned.

He died peacefully yesterday in the tender care of C ward at Mayo University Hospital, Castlebar, and that of his loving family.

Martin will be sadly missed and forever loved by his sons and daughters Michael, Mary, Ann, Jerry, John, Noreen and Raymond, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his brothers Michael and Ned and his sister Noreen Sweeney, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, relatives, neighbours, friends, and his former work colleagues in Mayo County Council, to whom sympathy is tendered.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife Kathleen Quinn (née Clarke) and his infant children Kieran and Fiona, his parents John and Anne Quinn, siblings Mary Anderson, Rita Chambers, Jack, Nicholas and Frank, who passed on October 11 last.

In 1951, fresh after completing his Primary Certificate at Currane National School, Martin began working with Mayo County Council.

What started as a young boy's first job became a 50-year career, reflecting the dedication, reliability and strong values that would shape his entire life.

But for Martin, work was never just about earning a living; it was about providing for the people he loved and creating a secure future for his family.

Martin understood the importance of family from an early age. Growing up as one of nine children, alongside his three sisters and five brothers, he learned the values of hard work, loyalty, sharing, and looking out for one another.

These were values he carried with him throughout his life and passed on to the generations that followed.

He met the love of his life, Kathleen, at the Town Hall in Castlebar, and they married in Keenagh Church in 1961.

Together they built a home filled with love, laughter and kindness, with family always at its heart.

Their marriage was a true partnership, and together they created a legacy that lives on through their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Martin took immense pride in his family and was always there to lend a helping hand, offer support, or provide quiet encouragement whenever it was needed.

Nothing gave him greater happiness than seeing his family together and watching them grow.

He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life: good company, a bit of craic, and time spent with family and friends.

To those who knew him best, Martin will be remembered not for the years he worked, but for the love he gave, the values he lived by, and the family he cherished above all else.

His was a life rich in what matters most: love, family, friendship, and the memories he created with those fortunate enough to know him.

Martin will repose at Kilcoyne’s Funeral Home, Thomas Street, Castlebar, on Friday from 5 p.m. with prayers at 7 p.m.

Removal from Kilcoyne’s Funeral Home, Thomas Street, Castlebar, on Saturday at 10 a.m., arriving at St. Michael’s Church, Crimlin, at 10.45 a.m. for Requiem Mass at 11 a.m.

Afterwards Martin will be laid to rest beside his wife Kathleen in Parke Cemetery.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.
