Mayo's OX Timber Frame Homes has renewed focus on one-off self-builders
Ballina-based OX Timber Frame Homes has announced a renewed focus on self-builders as CSO figures show that one-off houses accounted for more than half of all new homes completed in Mayo in the second quarter of 2026.
Meanwhile, across Galway, Mayo and Roscommon, one-off homes represented almost half of all completions during the same period, underlining their continuing role in housing delivery in the west.
OX Timber Fame Home’s renewed focus is supported by a refreshed logo and brand identity, a new website and social media videos showing how its timber frames are manufactured in Ballina and erected on sites across Ireland.
Operating from MVR Industrial Centre in Bunree Industrial Estate, the company works with individual self-builders alongside builders and developers delivering residential developments.
Pat Doherty of OX Timber Frame said: “For someone building their own home, the questions are very practical: What will it cost, how long will it take and what’s included? We want people to understand where timber frame fits into their build and to know they can come directly to us with their plans.
“We work with their architect, engineer and builder, so everyone understands what’s needed. Having those conversations early helps people make decisions and plan the next stages.”
The company’s portfolio includes residential developments in Crossmolina, Wild Green in Quignalecka and French Lawns in Bohernasup, Ballina, along with Rath Glas in Enniscrone, Co. Sligo.
Manufactured off site to each project’s drawings, the timber frames are delivered ready for assembly. Factory production allows the frame to be prepared before installation, helping the main structure take shape up to 30 per cent faster on site and allowing subsequent stages of construction to move forward.
A shorter construction programme can bring savings on associated costs such as equipment hire and temporary accommodation, depending on the project. Insulation and airtightness are also central to the company’s approach, supporting the delivery of energy-efficient homes.
Pat added: “Our work with builders and developers remains a key part of the business. Whether we’re manufacturing a frame for one family home or supplying a development, the care that goes into it is the same.
“There’s real pride in making those frames here in Ballina and seeing them become homes, both close to home and across the country.”
The new website includes dedicated information for self-builders, builders and developers, with project examples and guidance on the process from drawings through to installation. Video content will take viewers inside the Ballina factory and onto building sites, introducing the team and showing the work behind each frame.
