Music classes for beginners to take place in Mayo village

The Irish Folk Music School in Glenisland, is inviting adults who have always wanted to play an instrument to finally give it a go, with a new season of beginner evening classes starting on November 4 and November 5.

These classes have been really popular throughout the winter months over the last few years, and once again there are beginner classes in harp, bodhrán, ukulele and drums. No experience is necessary, and all instruments are provided, including the school's eight harps and four drum kits.

“So many adults tell us they always wished they'd learned an instrument," said Denny O’Brien, who runs the school. "Our classes are small, friendly and relaxed. “You don't need to read music or own an instrument. You just turn up, and by the end of the first night you're playing.”

Classes will run for four weeks, with 45-minute sessions in small groups and the days and times are as follows: Every Wednesday, starting November 4, ukulele at 6 p.m., and bodhrán at 7 p.m., every Thursday, starting November 5, harp at 6 p.m., and drums at 7 p.m.

Each four-week course costs €60, and tea/coffee are included every week.

The school also runs Baby Jam music sessions for parents and babies, which are fully booked this autumn.
