Mayo garda's Sunshine Cycle raises €23,100 in memory of Little Blue Hero Saoirse
A 340-kilometre charity cycle undertaken by a Mayo garda in memory of his Little Blue Buddy, Saoirse Duggan, on the first anniversary of her passing, has raised €23,100.
On June 15, 2025, Honorary Garda Saoirse Duggan of Claremorris Community Engagement Area sadly passed away and ascended to the rank of Heavenly Garda.
Saoirse was a beautiful, bright young member of Little Blue Heroes who was taken from all who loved and knew her far too soon.
To honour Saoirse’s memory, Community Garda John Monaghan of Claremorris Garda Station undertook a 340km charity cycle, raising much-needed funds for Little Blue Heroes. Named 'Saoirse’s Sunshine Cycle', the event took place on June 20 last, during the weekend marking the first anniversary of Saoirse’s passing.
Little Blue Heroes is a charity that supports families of children with serious illnesses and relies entirely on fundraising and donations to continue its invaluable work.
On behalf of Garda Monaghan, An Garda Síochána Mayo has extended thanks to everyone who generously supported and donated to this wonderful cause, with an incredible €23,100 raised for Little Blue Heroes.
A cheque presentation took place recently, with Saoirse’s mother, Martina Duggan, and Community Garda John Monaghan pictured above alongside Garda Audrey Garvey, the Little Blue Heroes representative for Mayo.
Thank you to everyone who helped make Saoirse’s Sunshine Cycle such a tremendous success. Your generosity will make a real difference to families facing the challenges of childhood illness.
