Mayo set for cold start before sunshine returns on Monday

Mayo is set for a largely dry and bright Monday, with plenty of autumn sunshine forecast following a particularly chilly start to the day.

According to Met Eireann, Monday, October 19, will begin cold, with temperatures falling close to freezing in some inland areas overnight.

Mist and fog patches may develop during the early morning, while frost is also possible in sheltered locations.

However, conditions are expected to improve as the morning progresses, with long sunny spells developing across much of the county.

Afternoon temperatures will reach between 9 and 12 degrees, accompanied by a light east to northeast breeze.

The prospects for outdoor activities are particularly favourable, with the chance of rainfall remaining very low throughout the day.

Monday evening is expected to remain largely dry with clear spells, although temperatures will begin to fall again after sunset.

The settled conditions come as much of the country experiences a cooler spell, with overnight frost becoming a feature of the autumn weather.
