January start for south Mayo bridge works

WORK on the pedestrian bridge on the N84 in Ballinrobe will start in January.

The update was confirmed to Councillor Damien Ryan at a district meeting where he requested information on a start date.

It had been delayed as it was included in a bundle of 10 bridges, some of which were the subject of appeals to An Coimisúin Pleanála, holding them all up.

The access and egress from Kilmaine community grounds was also raised by the councillor with the roads design office.

He was told correspondence from the roads office will be with TII within the next two weeks, which is important, and the MD can begin some work and TII will fund the rest. So they will now see activity at last, he said.

Councillor Michael Burke said the bridge is an accident waiting to happen and he asked there be no slippage on the January start date.
