Passing of lifelong Mayo GAA supporter and Kiltimagh 'legend' John Regan
The death of John Regan, 1 Bohola Road, Kiltimagh, is deeply regretted across the county.
He died peacefully at Mayo University Hospital yesterday.
A loyal Mayo GAA supporter throughout his life, a cherished dream came true for him on July 26 last when Mayo lifted the Sam Maguire after a 75-year wait.
As one tribute on social media said about him, John was a legend in Kiltimagh and always a delight to meet.
"Such a great character and a very proud Kiltimagh man," the tribute added.
John ran his own barber business in the east Mayo town for many years.
He stood as an independent candidate in the 1982 general election in the Mayo East constituency.
Predeceased by his parents Matthew and Mary Ellen Regan, his sister Maureen and brother Michael, John will be sadly missed by his brother Tommy, sister Katherina, sister-in-law Ann, brothers in law Hessam and Fred, nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.
Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their loss.
John will repose in O'Hora's Funeral Home, Kiltimagh, on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m., arriving to the Church of the Holy Family, Kiltimagh, at 8.30 p.m.
Requiem Mass takes place at 11 am on Saturday morning followed by burial in Kilkinure Cemetery, Kiltimagh.
May his gentle soul rest in peace.
