'Massive disappointment' in Mayo town centre over speed limits shock
THERE is 'massive disappointment' in Crossmolina with the proposal to maintain a 50kmh in the middle of the town, a local elected representative has said.
Councillor Michael Loftus said he had wanted to see the speed limit reduced to 30kmh but Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) had indicated their opposition to that proposal.
Under speed limit reviews undertaken at national level, a 30kmh default for built-up areas had been drafted but then dropped in favour of councils posting 30 street by street.
Councillor Loftus said he submitted reducing the speed limit to 30kmh on Main Street and Bridge Street in his hometown of Crossmolina.
He added that it was important for people to check the speed review in relation to their own town, with the deadline for submissions being November 3 next.
“Now is the chance for people to have their say,” he stated.
