Social housing income thresholds in Mayo should be same as neighbouring Galway

INCOME thresholds for social housing in Mayo should be the same as across the border in the Galway County Council area.

Mayo's housing strategic policy committee is not giving up on their quest to have a level playing field.

Unhappy about the lack of a ministerial reply to a letter asking for the thresholds in Mayo to be increased, the committee has asked for pen to be put to paper again.

Councillor Michael Kilcoyne has raised the inequality of income thresholds to qualify for social housing.

If you live on the Mayo side of Ballindine, the limit is €30,000. Cross the border into Galway and it's €35,000.

Having received no explanation as to the discrepancy, committee cathaoirleach Councillor Peter Flynn said even if they got equalisation it would make a difference for so many people.
