Major change in landscape at Mayo town centre location

A wall that has stood for over 70 years at the junction of Newtown and Riverside, Castlebar, is being knocked to the ground.

The work is taking place as part of a project to build four new houses at the location.

The housing scheme is being undertaken by Loftus Contractors on behalf of Castlebar Municipal District.

Many local residents watched with interest as the wall demolition works got underway.

When completed, the new homes will give the location a brighter and more attractive image.

The old wall was part of a former builders yard owned by the late Tom McHugh, Newtown.
