Further growth in padel sports facilities in Mayo
THE sport of padel is growing in Mayo with new facilities in the pipeline.
Claremorris Lawn Tennis Club is planning to install two new padel courts at D'alton Street in the town.
An application for planning permission has been submitted to Mayo County Council.
A planning statement highlights how padel tennis is the highest growing new sport in the country.
As courts are smaller than tennis, and no formal membership is needed (it’s a pay-as-you-go model), it is conducive to young, elderly, and new to-sports categories of users.
As the proposed courts are adjacent to the recreational facilities in the centre of town with the gym and swimming pool, GAA pitch and handball alleys, it is likely that parents bringing kids to other sports may choose to make use of the hour at the padel courts - a dual use of the trip.
The proposed hours of use are from 8 a.m. and up to 10 p.m.
