Tidy Towns disappointed by election posters near Mayo match venue

CASTLEBAR Tidy Towns has expressed disappointment over the erection of election posters outside the venue of today's Allianz National League game between Mayo and Monaghan.

The organisation said the county town has been designed 'a poster free zone' by Castlebar Municipal District.

The decision was taken on foot of a Sinn Fèin motion following the success of a poster-free initiative during last year's presidential election campaign.

The Tidy Towns committee has issued an appeal for the posters to be removed in order to uphold the spirit of the council's decision.

The committee added election posters contribute to litter problems which impinge on the environment generally.
