Inquest of N5 road tragedy victim opened and adjourned

AN inquest has opened and adjourned today into the death of a 77-year-old man from Ballymote, Co. Sligo, who was killed in a single vehicle road traffic accident on the N5 at Ballinvoher, Swinford, last July.

John Patrick Hannon, with an address at The Court Yard, Ballymote, died from severe head injuries which led to a brain haemorrhage, the Coroner for Mayo, Patrick O’Connor, was told by pathologist Dr. Fadel Bennani, who carried out a post mortem examination.

After taking evidence from Dr. Bennani and Grainne Bligh, a garda witness who attended the scene of the impact on July 14 last, the coroner adjourned the hearing until June 17 when further evidence will be heard at Castlebar courthouse in the presence of a jury.
