Plan to build 50 houses in Mayo urban centre is deferred again

A DECISION on a proposed development of an additional 50 houses at Rehins Fort, Ballina, has been deferred for another month.

The matter was subject to a discussion at the December 2019 monthly meeting of Ballina Municipal District, when it agreed to defer making a decision on the proposed development on a site off the Foxford Road.

Standing orders were suspended for 10 minutes to allow councillors, officials and members of the Rehins Fort Residents' Association to consult in relation to the proposal.

When the meeting resumed, Councillor Annie May Reape said a lot had been achieved in the few minutes and it was very little to ask for a deferral for one more month to allow for further meetings and clarifications, as proposed by Councillor Michael Loftus, Ballina MD cathaoirleach.

One of the residents' chief concerns is that the existing road network within the estate is to be used as the construction site access roadway for the duration of the building works, which could be 15-18 months.

The council has said that mitigation measures will form part of the health and safety plan at tender stage and measures will be incorporated into the plan to be implemented during the construction contract.
