Captain O'Connor ruled out of New York game

Mayo senior football team captain Diarmuid O'Connor has been ruled out of next Sunday's Connaught senior football quarterfinal against New York in Gaelic Park.

The reason for his absence is an eye injury picked up in training last Thursday night.

The injury, which was the result of an accidential clash, has proved a little more serious than first thought and the hope now is that he will recover in time for a Connaught semi-final encounter against either Roscommon or Leitrim if Mayo get past the New York challenge.

The Roscommon versus Leitrim quarterfinal is down for decision next Sunday week, May 12.

Should they progress, Mayo would be in Connaught semi-final action on Saturday, May 25. The game will be played in Elverys MacHale Park if it is against Roscommon and Carrick-on-Shannon if it is against Leitrim.

With O'Connor ruled out for next Sunday (May 5), Castlebar Mitchels' Paddy Durcan will lead the Mayo team out in Gaelic Park as he is vice-captain of the team this year.
