Limerick native Tom Power dies in Castlebar

THE death has taken place of Tom Power, Knockthomas, Castlebar, and formerly of Castleconnell, Limerick.

The deceased was widely known in Castlebar and was held in very high regard as one of the great characters of a town he took to his heart.

An electrician by trade, Tom had a strong love for his native Limerick and for hurling in particular. He was also a noted darts thrower, a keen snooker player and an accomplished golfer.

However, Tom will be remembered mostly for his great sporting knowledge and he developed something of an encylopaedic knowledge of all sport.

Above all, Tom was a great conversationalist and liked nothing better than a good chat about the latest happenings on the Gaelic football and hurling fields of Ireland.

He looked forward to the championship each year with great enthusiasm and enjoyed nothing more than seeing Limerick getting one over on Tipperary or Kilkenny, which didn’t happen too often. But, when it did, it was always an occasion for celebrating.

Deepest sympathy is extended to his wife Evelyn (nee Gannon), sons Ciaran (Castlebar) and Barry (Sixmilebridge Co. Clare), daughter-in-law Patricia, brothers Dermot, Eugene and Paul, his sister Kay (Barry), aunt, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and many friends and his neighbours in Knockthomas.

His remains will reposing at Kilcoyne’s Funeral Home, Thomas Street, Castlebar, this evening (Tuesday) from 5.30 with removal at 7.30 to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, arriving at 8 o’clock.

Burial takes place in the New Cemetery on Wednesday followng Requiem Mass for the repose of his soul at 11 a.m.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.
