Taoiseach turns first sod on new hospital facility

AN Taoiseach Enda Kenny has today performed the official sod-turning ceremony for a new development at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Castlebar which includes the demolition of part of the old structure which was built between 1969 and 1972.

The new wing will include 70 single bedrooms, two two-bed rooms and associated support and ancillary accommodation at a cost of €14 million.

Carey Construction, the successful bidders, hope to commence building work in the next few weeks. Construction will take approximately 15 months.

Stroke victim Leo O’Shaughnessy was given a prominent platform to express his gratitude to the management and staff of the Sacred Heart Hospital for the excellent care he receives at the centre.
