Death of widely respected member of Mayo handball community

THE passing of John (Sean) Kenny, Tara Court, Castlebar, and Foxboro, Ballinlough, Co Roscommon, is widely mourned.

A man with a deep interest in handball and other sporting pursuits, he was widely known and respected in the county town.

As a handball player with Castlebar Handball Club, he won a Connaught doubles title six years ago with the great Tom Derrig (RIP).

Members of Castlebar Handball Club formed a Guard of Honour when his remains were removed from the Mayo University Hospital Mortuary yesterday (Tuesday) evening to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar.

Mass of the Resurrection took place this morning and burial takes place in Ballinlough Cemetery.

In a tribute on its Facebook page, Mayo Handball County Board stated: “It was with deep sadness we learned of John's death. Our sympathy to his wide circle of friends in the handball community.â€
