John Maughan among names linked with vacant Castlebar Mitchels' role

THE new senior football squad management team at Castlebar Mitchels will be appointed from within the club, according to informed sources.

As a result, the names of former players Eamon Kennedy, Kevin Filan and Paul Jordan are among the names being linked with the position in the aftermath of the resignations today of joint managers Declan O'Reilly, Declan Shaw and their backroom team.

However, former Mayo, Clare and Roscommon senior football team boss John Maughan is also being widely tipped in county town GAA circles tonight due to his close association with the county champions.

He is currently managing Lahardane McHales, a club he led to its first Connacht JFC title a number of weeks ago. His son, John, is a member of the Mitchels senior squad.

Maughan is currently preparing Lahardane for an All-Ireland semi-final clash but would be very tempted to take on the big role at Jodie Munnelly Park.

The Crossmolina man has managed a number of Castlebar Mitchels teams at underage level in recent years with great success and he will have strong support at executive committee level within the club.
