Cian Hanley

Cian Hanley is set to start for Mayo against Limerick

BALLAGHADERREEN'S Cian Hanley is expected to named in Mayo's starting team which takes on Limerick in the first round of the All-Ireland SFC qualifiers tomorrow. The game throws in at the Gaelic Grounds at 6 p.m.

Twenty-one-year Hanley, who returned home from Australia earlier this year after spending three playing with Brisbane Lions in the AFL, was drafted into the Mayo senior squad by manager Stephen Rochford.

The former Mayo minor captain came on as a substitute against Galway in last month's Connaught championship quarterfinal clash in Castlebar.

However, Hanley is now set to make his first start for the county senior team in a competitive game.

With regular Mayo midfielder Tom Parsons picking up a serious knee injury in the Galway game which has ruled the Charlestown man out for the rest of the season, Hanley looks like the man to whom Rochford and his management are looking to take over from Parsons for the 2018 campaign.

It is likely he will partner Seamus O'Shea in the middle of the field.

The Mayo team is due to be announced later today.
