Cian Hanley: man of the match in minor final.

Mayo retain Connaught minor crown

Mayo retained their Connaught minor football title with eight points to spare over Roscommon at sunny MacHale Park. The final score was Mayo 2-16, Roscommon 0-14.
Brian Reape emerged as the star of the show with a 1-6 tally, his goal 10 minutes from time turning the game in favour of the All-Ireland champions.
A Cian Hanley goal for Mayo separated the sides at the interval, with Mayo 1-8 to 0-8 ahead, but they should have been even further in front but for some poor finishing and seven bad wides.
Roscommon came within a point of Mayo with an early second half surge but the champions pulled out that bit extra, substitute Fionnan Duffy impacting with two fine points, while Reape’s goal put the seal on an emphatic win.
Scorers for Mayo: B. Reape 1-6, C. Hanley 1-2, C. Byrne, F. Duffy and G. Boylan 0-2 each, C. Kilkenny and T.J. Byrne 0-1 each.
Scorers for Roscommon: N. Gately 0-5, K. Smyth (3f), H Darcy 0-3 each, L. Carty 0-2, F. Lennon 0-1.
