In aido we trust

IT started as a simple poster (produced by Breaffy GAA Club) of Aidan O’Shea on a ledge at Tolster’s Bar in Spencer Street, Castlebar.

Now, in the run-up to Mayo’s participation in the final stages of the 2015 All-Ireland football championship, the display has been embellished.

It’s now more of a shrine.

Some fervent supporter (not the proprietor) has placed a candle beneath the large photo of the marquee forward. Overhead has been written: ‘In Aido We Trust’.

It all goes to show how much faith is being placed this year on the Breaffy man who, reinvented as a full-forward, has been a revelation.

If Mayo do get to the semi-finals, expect further candles to be added to Aido’s ‘shrine’ in Tolster’s.

Maybe even Gerry will put in some kneelers for those who want to add greater fervency to their prayers for All-Ireland success in September.

Says the pub proprietor himself - tongue in cheek perhaps: “Maybe a few prayers in my place would lift the famous curse that’s supposedly been placed on Mayo.”

He added: “Seriously though, the ‘shrine’ began life as a simple poster.

Then somebody added a candle and the words ‘In Aido We Trust’. It just took off from there. I believe photos of the ‘shrine’ have already been posted on the internet.”
