Special fund being set up in honour of melissa patterson

THE grieving mother of 18-year-old Melissa Patterson announced today (Monday) that a special fund is to be set up in her name.

It will be known as 'The Melissa Patterson Fund' as a testament to Melissa's short but wonderful life.

Details will be revealed by the Patterson family at a later stage.

Carmel Patterson spoke briefly at the funeral of her twin daughter who died at Mayo General Hospital on Thursday evening last from injuries received when struck by a car on the N60 at Breaffy earlier while walking.

Up to 1,000 mourners attended the funeral, many of them Gaelic footballers and soccer players who knew Melissa from her exploits on the sporting fields with Davitt College, Castlebar Mitchels and Castlebar Town FC.

Melissa would not want to be remembered for the way she died but for the way she lived,' Carmel Patterson advised mourners before the remains were brought from the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, to their last resting place in the New Cemetery.
