Venues and times confirmed for Mayo GAA semi-finals

CHAMPIONS Castlebar Mitchels will face Garrymore in the first of the senior championship semi-final double-header fixed for MacHale Park, Castlebar. next Sunday (1.45).

The Mitchels had to dig deep yet again to see off a determined challenge from Knockmore, Mayo ace Paddy Durcan nailing the vital goal to get the three-in-a-row seeking champions over the wining line.

Claremorris have to await the outcome of Wednesday night’s replay between Ballintubber and Hollymount-Carramore before they know their semi-final opponents. That game is fixed for 8 p.m. in MacHale Park

Claremorris will be making their first semi-final appearance since 2008 following a shock one-point win ((1-10 to 0-12) over a Breaffy side that lined out without flu-victim, Seamus O'Shea, and Michael Hall.

Colin Gill was the Claremorris hero with a late point to snatch a famous victory for the south Mayo side who started with seven of the Under 21 championship winning side of three years ago.

Hollymount-Carramore’s Conor Keane landed a late point to earn the south Mayo side a second chance in the second of two quarterfinals played in MacHale Park on Saturday night.

The game produced the game of the championship with quality points from both sides in a game that finished all square on 0-17 apiece.

Meanwhile, Garrymore ran riot at the Connacht Centre of Excellence to crush Ballina’s championship hopes for 2017 and they now look serious title contenders on the back of a superb performance.

The intermediate championship quarterfinals winners emerged as expected and sees Bohola Moy Davitts advance to a semi-final meeting with Islandeady, while Kiltimagh will face Louisburgh.

Those semi-finals are down for James Stephens Park, Ballina, on Saturday with Kiltimagh v Louisburgh at 2.45 p.m. and the other clash at 4.30 p.m.
