The secretary of a leading football club has been suspended for a two years by the Mayo League in a crackdown on player registrations.
The punishment was imposed on Mick Byrne, Ballyheane FC, for forging the signatures of 26 players and one parent on league registration forms. He was secretary of the club at the time of the offence.
Members of the Mayo League's disciplinary committee took the action after conducting an investigation into the matter.
The investigation was instigated by apparent similarities in players' registration signatures on the Ballyheane registration form.
