Mayo born Lucinda Creighton, one of the founders of Renua

Barrister lisa is legal eagle for new political party renua

A Mayo born barrister, whose family is steeped in Fianna Fáil politics, has played a leading role in the formation of the new political party Renua, writes Tom Shiel.

Lisa Chambers, a daughter of Frank Chambers from Newport, a former Fianna FáIl Senator and member of Mayo County Council, is legal adviser to the new party which has been founded by Lucinda Creighton, a native of Claremorris.

Last week Ms. Creighton and Ms. Chambers lodged the party’s formal registration papers and constitution with the clerk of Dail Éireann.

Renua is seeking candidates to stand in every constituency in Ireland. As of yet no candidate has been selected or speculated on to stand in the Mayo constituency, a four-seater next time around.

One of the issues which Ms. Creighton, in a recent interview with The Connaught Telegraph, promised to tackle is the urban/rural divide which, she maintains, is quite pronounced at the moment. She stated: “Unemployment and disadvantage happen everywhere but in Dublin there is a sense of the beginnings of recovery. The problem of emigration is much bigger in rural Ireland. You need a tailor-made solution for all the regions, clear regional strategies. In the past we had a national spatial strategy, a national development plan. They have all just been put to one side.”

Ms. Creighton’s dad, John, who died in 2011, was a well known bookmaker based in Claremorris.
