Works have commenced on macbride community nursing unit upgrade

A contractor has been appointed and has commenced work on-site to complete the upgrading of works at the MacBride Community Nursing Unit in Westport.

Welcoming the news, Minister of State Michael Ring explained: “The work will be carried out in two phases.

“Phase one will consist of the upgrading of services distribution works and electrical services. It will also include the upgrading of all single rooms, bathroom and toilet areas on one west side of the building, including the installation of overhead hoists, vanity units and the replacement of floor finishes and decoration.

“Phase two will consist of the upgrading of the remainder of patient rooms and bathrooms together with the provision of overhead hoists and complete replacement of all floor covering.”

It is expected that the contract period will take approximately eight to nine months.

On completion, the MacBride Community Nursing Unit will be in compliance with HIQA Standard for Registration, Minister Ring confirmed.
