Corrie star helps mayo troupe raise over 11000 for charity

Sally Dynevor, who plays Sally Webster in the world famous Coronation Street TV show, helped Young, Gifted & Green - the winner of the Manchester Mayo Millenium Award - generate over £11,000 for the breast cancer prevention charity Genesis.

The actress officially launched the sell-out show with another Mayo award winning group, the Fianna Phadraig Pipe Band, and last year's Mayo Award winner, the Keegan Academy of Irish Dance.

As well as helping to sell out the Lowry Theatre, the Keegan Academy and the Fianna Phadraig band were flying the flag for Mayo at the begining of the 2015 Manchester Irish Festival, where they helped launch the Mayo Day promotion in Levenshulme. They are now busy getting ready for the Mayo Day Gala concert on May 2, which will take place in St. Mary's Parish Centre with the Ballina-based band Flat Out and Mayo singer Kevin Prendegast.

The award-winning Irish dance troupe is run by the three-time World Irish Dancing champion James Keegan, who has now taken over from Michael Flately as the new Lord of the Dance, and his sister Louise. The troupe were involved in the Mayo Manchester Gathering, which is returning to Ballina for a wee- long festival in the summer (July 30 to August 6).

The evening was hosted by Joe Casserley from the award-winning Full Irish Radio and Alan Keegan, the voice of Manchester United Football Club, performed the auction.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Dynevor said: “I was delighted to be asked to open up the show and it is great to see it being staged at the Lowry, which is just a few hundred yards from the cobbled streets of Coronation Street. It is great to see the event raising the profile of the charity and much needed funds to stop breast cancer.”
