You don't have to worry about how you look at Féile na Tuaithe!

Great start to the summer promised at file na tuaithe turlough park

Féile na Tuaithe - Turlough Park, a celebration of continuity and change in Irish county life and tradition, made a hugely successful return to the grounds of the National Museum of Ireland - Country Life, Turlough Park, Castlebar, in 2014 after an absence of three years. Over 22,000 people attended this free family event last May.

Reinvigorated and re-focused, the National Museum of Ireland - Country Life will continue to put even greater emphasis in 2015 on increased family entertainment and quality, artisan-produced craft and food from the best producers in the western region

The free-to-attend festival will take place over the weekend of May 23 and 24, from 12 to 5 p.m. both days. The family fun begins immediately at the museum gates and continues on every part of the grounds and into the galleries.

“If the Museum of Country Life is very much about the lives of ordinary people in rural Ireland in the relatively recent past, Féile na Tuaithe links traditional and contemporary craft practices. It is an extension of the museum’s remit to bring the craft dimension of the lives of our recent ancestors to public attention in an enjoyable and family-friendly way,” said Raghnall Ó Floinn, director of the National Museum of Ireland.

The award-winning National Museum of Ireland - Country Life at Turlough Park is home to the National Folklife Collection, which represents traditional life in Ireland throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries. Fascinating artefacts deal with domestic life, agriculture, fishing and hunting, clothing and textiles, furniture and fittings, trades and crafts, transport, sports and leisure and religion.

Set in the spectacular grounds of Turlough Park, the museum treats visitors to a taste of how our ancestors lived their daily lives, in both difficult and joyful times. Over 100,000 people visit the museum from all over the world each year.
