Home comfort for Mayo clubs

THE draw for the sixth round of the FAI Junior Cup has been kind to Mayo clubs.

The three definitely through to the last 32 - Castlebar Celtic, Manulla and Westport United - have home fixtures and if Claremorris join them, they too will have a home tie.

Claremorris do have to travel to Roscommon to play their fifth round game against Moore United, a match that was due to be played in Concannon Park last Sunday but was postponed because of the weather.

Should they come away from Roscommon with a win on December 19, Claremorris can look forward to a home game against Cork AUL side Pearse Celtic in round six.

Castlebar Celtic, meanwhile, have been drawn against Glengad United of the Inishowen League. Based way up north close to Malin Head on the Inishowen Peninsula, Glengad have been enjoying quite a degree of success of late and are the reigning league champions.

Manulla welcome Salthill Devon from Galway, whose lowly position in the Premier Division is mitigated by the fact that they have played fewer games than many other clubs. A couple of wins would propel them up the table.

Finally, Westport United play familiar foes St. Peter's of Athlone, who are affiliated to the Combined Counties League. The sides last met a couple of seasons ago when Westport came away from Athlone with a 2-1 win, while St. Peter's won on penalties when the sides met in 2009 and went on to finish runners-up in the competition that year. In 2006, Westport secured a 2-1 win over St. Peter's in a game that also went to extra time.

The sixth round matches are due to be played on the weekend of January 9/10.
