Castlebar street under new ownership

A STREET in Castlebar is under new ownership. . .and that’s official.

Three major properties which make up Cavendish Lane are now under new ownership.

The former offices of The Connaught Telegraph have been acquired by well-known local publican John McHale, New Line, for a sum of €490,000.

The sale of the property was unavoidably delayed for a number of months as a result of title issues.

But sales contracts have been signed and the sale was closed by Brian Moran Auctioneers.

The property directly across Cavendish Lane from the former home of The Connaught Telegraph has been acquired by a group of investors for a sum in excess of €1 million.

It includes a number of shop units, some of which are currently vacant, and 18 upstairs apartments.

The purchase of the property was handled by local auctioneer firm, DNG LImited, on behalf of the investors.

A third major property on the street, directly behind the Irish Permanent Bank, has been secured by an unnamed investor for a sum in excess of €600,000. It includes a shop unit and a number of apartments.

It is hoped the investment will lead to an uplift in retail activity at one of Castlebar’s oldest locations.
