Pedestrian crossing at Dunnes Stores

Traffic management changes afoot

CHANGES are afoot in traffic management in and around Dunnes Stores in Castlebar.

Heavy lorries won’t have to reverse on delivery runs to Dunnes when new proposals for changes at the store’s carpark are completed.

The changes will mean that articulated lorries will be able to drive straight down to the entrance to the premises, local councillors were told at a Castlebar Municipal District meeting.

Electronic bollards will allow access to the lorries. Ordinary vehicles won’t have such access.

Talks are continuing about changes to the carpark which will mean that the bottle banks will have to be moved but there will be no loss of parking spaces.

A new pedestrian crossing has also been installed at the head of the access slip road servicing the store.
