Stage is set for new-look Castlebar parade

EVERYTHING is set for a reinvigorated St. Patrick's Day Parade in Castlebar on Friday and it looks like the weather will be okay too.

It starts at 2 p.m. from McHale Road and the route is the same as previous years.

No heavy vehicles are involved this year as greater emphasis is given to smaller groups with colour.

Ahead of the 1798 reenactment in Castlebar next month, there will be a strong '98 influence in the parade.

Market Square will host a concert fiesta from 12 noon and numerous bands will be on stage while face painters and other attractions will be located there.

The organising committee is also holding a window display competition for the businesses too.  Just dress your window in a “Shop local this St. Patrick’s Day” and you’re in.

There will be special attention given to windows using the ‘Cúpla Focal’ and Gnó Mhaigh Eo have come on board to a offer a special prize along with the cash prize already on offer.

The will be nine golden wing motor bikes taking park and they will be on display at Market Square beforehand.

To facilitate the route and new look mardi gras parade, large vehicles and large ”truck floats” are discouraged.

Buskers, jugglers, singers are invited to join in on the fun on the street to add to this unique event.
