Flashback to August 13 - 'Jesus' is arrested in Main Street, Castlebar

Mayo gardaí have dealt with 'biblical' intruders

ACTIVITIES of a 'biblical' nature in Castlebar on a recent Sunday have been dealt with by gardaí, it has been confirmed.

Two men - one dressed as 'Jesus', the other as 'Abraham' - caused concern to worshippers at midday Mass in the Church of the Holy Rosary on August 13.

One was arrested by gardai in Main Street for being intoxicated. The other was questioned.

Given events elsewhere in the world these days, the church intrusion provoked some anxiety amongst Massgoers.

However, all ended well and there was no incident apart from noise disturbance.

It is understood that one of the persons involved is from Castlebar, the other from Ballina.

The arrest at Main Street occurred around 2.45 p.m. some hours after the church commotion.

There will be no court appearances following the incidents. Gardaí say the matter has been dealt with.
