Daylighted Campaign in Mayo

THE Daylighted Campaign will be celebrated throughout Mayo as the week draws to an end.

Organised by the Mayo Road Safety Office from Mayo County Council, Westport Smarter Travel and Green-Schools Travel, the aim of the campaign is to encourage cyclists and pedestrians to wear luminous and reflective clothing and use lights when commuting to school, work or for leisure.

The campaign also reminds drivers use their dipped headlights and to slow down and watch out for pedestrians and cyclists, particularly around schools, homes and shops.

Pupils in schools are encouraged to dress up wearing crazily bright clothes or fancy dress and illuminate their walk, scoot or cycle to school.

It takes place tomorrow (Friday, October 27), making Mayo the brightest county in Ireland as we head into the weekend.

Meanwhile, Westport Smarter Travel will provide hi-vis vests in their offices for anyone who requires them for traveling this wintertime.
