Record breaking weekend for Leaving Cert student

LEAVING Cert exams and breaking national records abroad – all in a week for Mayo athlete Michaela Walsh.

As the Swinford AC Facebook page summed up their club athlete's achievements in recent days: “There are not many of us who could sit part of our Leaving Cert, go to England for a weekend to compete, break a national record and then come home to finish the exams, but that is exactly what Michaela Walsh did at the weekend!”

Michaela represented Ireland in the English Under 23 Championships in Bedford at the weekend where, with a massive hammer throw of 64.22m, she set a PB and broke the Under 23 national record.

The national record was set back in 2003 by Olympian Eileen O'Keefe.

Next up for Michaela is her music exam in the Leaving Cert.
