Ashford Castle hosts auction of 1806 letter by Napoleon

Ashford Castle has announced that it will host an auction of decorative furniture and items on Monday next, August 13, at 10 a.m.

Hosted on behalf of the Red Carnation Hotel Group, the sale will feature items from Red Carnation hotels in Geneva, London, Guernsey with some items from Ashford Castle.

This is a rare opportunity to purchase some of the very finest interiors furniture and decorative items which were previously purchased at Christies, Sotheby’s and Bonhams Auction houses.

A historic collectible sure to generate interest is an 1806 letter by Napoleon Bonaparte.

This forms part of the collection which also features a large collection of original artwork, handmade Persian carpets, a pair of striking marble pedestals, two mid-20th century Pierre Lottier Sofas, 19th century tapestry borders, thirty pairs of beautifully crafted curtains, garden furniture and a wide range of soft furnishings including sofas and armchairs, which would complement a modern home beautifully.

The no reserve auction will be held in the Sawmills, Clonbur Road, Cong, on Monday. Viewing is recommended and open on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. until 7pm. The catalogue is available online at irishcountryhome.com.
