New amenity park to be called Emigrant Park

THE proposed new amenity park in Kiltimagh will be named Emigrant Park.

The name was revealed at a public meeting hosted by Kiltimagh Amenity Park Committee in the Park Hotel tonight.

Contracts for the sale of lands for the park – on a six-acre site in the town centre – are due to be signed off on in the very near future.

A major show of financial support has helped progress the project. Last May a figure of €10,000 was in the park's account towards the land purchase. Tonight, MC Angelina Nugent revealed the amount now raised stands at €124,000 – the target is €150,000.

A final push is now on to get the local financial contribution over the line and complete the purchase.

Funding applications to develop the park will then be made, and the project will proceed to the design and planning stage in collaboration with Mayo County Council.

The naming rights for the park were awarded to a major donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, the meeting was told.

Emigrant Park was a fitting name, Angelina said in making the announcement, as Kiltimagh and its people have links all over the world.

A promotional video has been produced for the amenity park: https://youtu.be/w0PlFzFDeJc.
