Man in hospital after being rescued from Croagh Patrick

A MAN has been transferred by ambulance to Mayo University Hospital after falling ill while climbing Croagh Patrick earlier today.

The alarm was raised shortly after 5.40 p.m. and efforts to airlift the patient from the cone of the Reek, after being attended to by a first response medical team, proved unsuccessful due to the conditions.

He was then stretchered off the mountain by members of Mayo Mountain Rescue to an ambulance at the base.

The rescue operation was stood down shortly after 10.40 p.m.

Great credit is due to everybody involved in the rescue.
