Minister issues call to RTÈ over rural Ireland coverage

THE Minister for Rural and Community Development has called on RTÈ to give more positive coverage to rural communities across the country.

Michael Ring said the national broadcaster 'does not see all the good stuff that is happening' in countries like Cork, Kerry, Donegal and Mayo.

"I would love for RTÈ to go out and cover a small bit of positivity and see what is happening on the ground. I invite their people down and I will show them," he stated.

Minister Ring made his comments in Dàil Èireann when speaking about the success of his department's recent rural roadshows and helping hands workshops, designed to promote rural regeneration.

"It was a pity more of the media did not come to see what was happening on the ground.

"The enthusiasm of the people who turned up was remarkable," he added.
