Four All-Star nominations for Mayo

Four Mayo players line up among the 2019 Gaelic football All-Star nominations, which were announced this morning.

A total of 45 players have been nominated: three goalkeepers, 18 defenders, six midfielders and 18 forwards.

Colm Boyle, Paddy Durcan and Chris Barrett are among those nominated for the six defensive positions, while Aidan O'Shea is one of the six nominated for the two midfield positions.

All-Ireland champions Dublin lead the way with 13 of their players nominated, followed by Kerry with nine.

The third highest county with players nominated is Donegal, with six, who Mayo knocked out at the All-Ireland quarterfinal stages. Mayo come next with four, and Tyrone, All-Ireland beaten semi-finalsists, with three.

The only other county in Connaught with players nominated is Roscommon, who have two.

For Mayo, to have just four players nominated may be considered a little disappointing. They are the National League Division 1 champions and did qualify for the All-Ireland semi-final. No Mayo forward features among the nominated players.
