Mayo artist's installation a hit in Galway

THE 'Rainbow in a box' art installation created by Mayo artist Cathal McCarthy attracted large crowds last week when it was installed at Spanish Arch in Galway for Baboro Arts Festival.

Over 2,000 people of all ages visited the exhibition during the week. Festival director Aislinn Ó hEocha said they were delighted with the response to the visual art installation which proved a big hit with local young audiences.

School groups attended from Ballinasloe and Roscommon to experience the light and colour mixing installation.

The installation is created using hi-tech lighting and special filters where the viewer can experience how light refracts in different ways.

McCarthy, who created the Player in Ballindine, is currently working on a new sculpture commission for Sancta Maria School in Louisburgh and has recently been awarded a new commission for Hoechstadt in Germany.

The 'Rainbow in a box' art installation will tour to Cork Midsummer Festival and other art festival locations in 2020.
