Meeting confirmed with Achill community over emergency accommodation

THE Reception and Integration Agency is to hold a meeting with representatives of the Achill community over controversial plans to provide emergency accommodation in Keel.

It has been confirmed the meeting will take place prior to the propopsed commencement of the facility at Achill Head Hotel tomorrow.

A total of 20 male asylum seekers are due to arrive in Keel on Wednesday with a further 18 men to arrive over the coming weeks.

Local Councillor Paul McNamara revealed on his Facebook page that negotiations took place between community representatives and the proprietor of the hotel on Saturday.

He stated that during the meeting an assurance was given by the proprietor to renegotiate his contract with the Reception and Integration Agency.

It is understood the issue of the contract will be discussed with the agency during the course of the meeting that has now been agreed.
