Kamal Uddin

Labour Party to run candidate in Mayo constituency

The Labour Party is to run a candidate in the four-seat Mayo constituency in next month's general election.

Kamal Uddin will be contesting his fourth election in Mayo, having run in the 2014 and 2019 local elections and the 2016 general election.

He contested the 2014 and 2016 elections as an independent before joining the Labour Party ahead of last year's local elections in the Castlebar Municipal District.

Mr. Uddin is originally from Bangladesh but moved to Mayo 20 years ago and lives in Castlebar with his family. He runs a small family business in Kiltimagh.

Ahead of the 2019 local elections, he said his priorities included giving a voice to the retail sector and doing more to help combat climate change.

He also stated he wanted to see the delivery of a strong public housing model in the area along with the continued delivery of improved community infrastructure, and to see improvements in services across rail, road and cycleways.

"I am very passionate about my adopted community," he added.
